Honestly

Jumping in mud puddles,
barefoot.
Laughing loud and free,
unencumbered.
Sweet flavored popsicles,
dripping on our shirts.

Sweetest memories,
of our early childhoods.
Bosoms growing tender,
hoping to deliver double DD's!

Teen years of blushes,
sighing crushes.
I like you, and YES!
you like me!

Sudden disappointments,
maturity.
Learning how to separate,
wisely.
What problems belong to you,
and what belongs to me.

Bold lessons of understanding,
forgiving.
Releasing the power of love,
fearlessly.

What is love,

if you look past the roses,

and love letters.

It is the fragrant scent,

of unconditional giving.

Scribbled notes of compassion,

understanding and forgiving.

Accepting and adoring

our unique differences.

and damn,

if it all doesn't begin,
first with me, loving,

honestly.

is it worth it?

MOST DEFINITELY!

Author notes

Contest prompt: where is the love.
I heard YOU..a lovely poetess who is filled with strength
and loving compassion.

Divorce of your parents doesn't have to build walls confining you.
That's their learning blocks.
Your job right now is to love being you.
Planning dreams and adventures you would like to live!
and if you forget....and feel walled in...
take off your shoes and socks...and go
march out in the yard...boldly!
and jump in those mud puddles barefoot once again!

This is a beautiful, tender poem. There is not falsehood or pretense in it. This stanza rings especially poignant and true to me:

    "What is love,

if you look past the roses,

    and love letters.

    It is the fragrant scent,

    of unconditional giving."

Congratulations on winning the bronze trophy!

Very rarely do I read something that makes me cry. My eyes are watering right now and only my self control is keeping me from letting loose my waterfalls. This is an exquisite write. It was written thoughtfully and wonderfully. Everything from the flow to the words was impeccable. Thank you for your work and thank you for your message.

Beautiful and honest. Lovely imagery in the first stanza especially. And I love the author notes too! A pleasure to read, good luck in the contest.
