Finding Hope in the Oddest of Places

One cold, mysty day, I walked those long
Roads that I knew, but this time a surprise
Had caught my attention..

A comforting wind had washed over me, as if
It were welcoming; and out came a man. .  Quite
An odd fellow, who had the longest scarf wrapped
Carefully 'round his hidden face..  Almost as if
It were a dream he stepped out.

He looked to me, with saddened yet understanding
Eyes, and soon pulled out an old pocket watch
From his coat.  He looked to it, nodded to me and
Said, "We could all use some help in our time of need
These days.."

He gave me a warm smile that I could not see yet I
Could feel; a hopeful smile that would not turn
Away anyone homeless, without shelter, such as
Myself.  He pulled out a bag from his pocket and
Handed it to me with warming eyes, and
Soon he was gone.

To my surprise, in the bag was some food, enough
For two.. along with some change.  I looked back to
The place where he was, thanking him but he had already
Faded away, just like that; leaving me with a thankful
Smile, and the knowledge that there were good people
Out there, still.

  • Beautiful

That's really really beautiful writing, there. Made me want to cry, it's so touching. And it's marvelously written, with excellent visuals. I love it. *nod*

  • This is a very nice poem. It is hopeful. And yes, there are good people out there who practice random acts of kindness.

  • is this your tribute to eddie? if so he would've really loved it. ^_^ i know he would.

It's not my tribute to Eddie. His will be coming sooner or later. Thanks, though!
  • Great story of hope, understanding and caring. I could see that man offering help. This one gave me a little more hope today. Thanks for sharing.
