She And I Forever

She was part Cherookee, part angel, part Basque.

I was Scots-Irish if somebody ever asked.

She grew up in Idaho and I was raised in Kennewick.

She had a poodle who loved to fetch a stick.

We met in Seattle after Nineteen Seventy-three and

the rest of our story is pure history.

To some animals, forever is twenty years and I think

that our story was just one of their's.

We both got out while the getting was still good;

it really was that simple and should be understood.

I was never really sure if we were true soul mates or

the result of some Basque black magic.

Wow this is beatiful! I love how the words just flowed together. It had both love and heart break in here, but it was nice to see that the ending was left on a happier note. Thanks for sharing, and commenting on my write as well.

    greetings Kennewick man!
just returned from Lake Wenatchee a week or so
ago....omg! the snow is still there and the water
    was glacier cold!

    enjoyed your poem!
    Idaho..huh?
    goodness..what in the world
    were you thinking!

    She must have been
    very mesmerizing
    to capture your heart
and keep it for nearly 20 years!
    good for you.

  • There is depth here that only simplicity can convey. The deepest experience and expressions in this life are often only best told and understood through the simplest means. After my mom died.. (she was a Leo in this life), I missed her nails, which she left to me..(not literally) but I never had nice nails until she died.. so I take beautiful care of mine now..like they were hers. I miss her voice, but I hear it in my head like my favorite songs. I miss her sandwiches and iced tea, which never taste the same now. So I do understand.. that for all the things in this life we live.. we love, miss and need the basics.. sometimes, not finding them until after the complexities have been had. Beautiful work.

  • This is one of my favorites by you you did an awesome job. well done! Bravo..
