My sister and I are Star Trek fans
Of that there can be no doubt
We make an effort to watch it
Whenever a movie comes out
But some years ago, our spirits were low
There was a star trek movie on screen
And due to pregnancy issues
By us it had not yet been seen
For I had just had a baby
And she was immenently due
Going anywhere under these circumstances
Is difficult, let me tell you
So we decided to meet at our fathers
Where her husband would look after my daughter
And we vowed that we'd see it on its last day
Come hell or even high water
I picked up the phone on the day and
There was a sad voice talking to me
With the inconvenient news that..
'Now I'm in labour you see'
But after a short discussion
We decided to go anyway
At least we'll go to the movie
Although we may not be able to stay
So after meeting at Mum & Dad's house
We were happily on our way there
Waving as we pulled out the drive
While my Father looked on in despair
My sister sat in the back
With a towel for under her bum
As getting amniotic fluid out of car seats
Is probably not very much fun
So we made our way into the city
While my sister remebered to breathe
And occasionaly had to stop here and there
To lean over with hands on her knees
We bought our tickets and popcorn
And made our way to some seats on the aisle
We proceeded to watch the whole movie
Without even the slightest of trial
So we finally left the theatre and
No one would ever have known
Apart from the fingernail imprints
embedded in the chair foam
I'm happy to say without problems
Zachary was born later that day
That I'm glad he didn't arrive at the movies
Is all that I'm going to say
In a list

You know, Bex, I think movies in a labor room would be a great idea. But this really made me smile at your determination, both of you! I think Zachary was pretty close to being transported instead of born! ("Just beam me up, Mom!") But poor Granddad! This is a wonderful tale and I'm glad you got to see your movie in its entirety.

You should send this to the people who organize the Star Trek convention. You and your sister would probably win an award for your dedication. All the ray guns and explosions in the movie must have made the baby wonder what kind of world he/she was about to enter. The story would have been perfect if your sister started panicking and you had to put a Vulcan death grip on her to calm her down. I hope she named the baby Kirk or Bones (or Sulu if the baby was a girl.)

Funny stuff. Thanks for the laugh before bed.

You know Mark, now I've thought about it, I might just send it to a star trek convention. Although I'll never get to go to one, it will be fun to send the poem to them

Thanks Mark, but quite honestly the funniest part was the look of horror on my father's face as we drove down the street, I'll never forget it!!

Talk about fan loyalty.

O.O This is just....wow....
I love the way you made it rhyme without seeming to put much effort into it. It's a funny story, I don't think I'd have wanted to be there though

Thank you, I don't find it that hard to make poems rhyme, some have said my poems are a little on the simple side though, maybe that is the case, but I like them that way.
