Sonnet #1: Why do I love the summer thunderstorms?

Why do I love the summer thunderstorms?
The sky is bleak and black, the weight of air
Is heavy with foreboding water forms.
I wait for sudden lightning as I stare,
The jagged bolt can split the sky in two,
Illuminating breifly all the world,
Unleashing hot wet drops of heav'nly dew.
Behold celestial banners now unfurled!
The roar now reaches my unworthy ears;
A rumbling threat of so much more to come.
The children, dogs have fresh ignited fears,
But me, I crave the dang'rous summer drum.
    And through the tumult of the sound and light,
    I know I will sleep peacefully tonight.

Author notes

My first attempt at a sonnet! They're so fun once you get the hang of iambic pentameter. Dee dah dee dah dee dah dee dah dee dah!

What do you think? Contructive criticism is welcome, especially concerning form and style.

    Iambic pentameter has always been a struggle for me, but I lovelove the couplet at the end & of course, summer thunderstorms. This poem conveyed the "thunderstorm anticipation" really well.

    I can't wait for some real intense storms this summer.
