She was always the type to make everyone feel alright.
She always wore a bright smile.
Looking back to all the times I hung out with her at lunch and break,
it was all worthwhile.
I remember when I first met her in ninth grade,
and with her short hair I mistakenly thought she was a guy.
Not the best memory,
but it's the little things that people remember after they say goodbye.
I remember when my dog passed away in 2002.
She said, I'm sorry. She was always the type to take away everyone's blues.
She passed on as a result of a fatal accident in a car.
But to everyone who knew her, she will always be a shining star.
Author notes
In memory of my high school classmate Kelly Ferguson 1985-2008
She passed on in a fatal car accident last Thursday, May 15th. I didn't know her really well, but with it being a small school, everyone pretty much knew everyone else, like a small town and this is the first person I went to school with who has passed on, so I've been in shock for the past few days.
Please tell me what you think

Hoodwinked!
This is a sad reality, but a beautiful tribute to someone that you knew, even if it was nto well.
Memories, and relaying the way that she touched your life.

Thanks, Shari. Yeah, I was quite in shock when Kelly passed on. I mean, anyone who I knew in high school I felt as part of a gang. It's the little things in life we end up remembering. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks, Tasha. You're right. It is always hard to lose someone. I have been feeling a little better, but not a day goes by that I don't think of her as I knew her in high school. I just wish I had gotten to know her better before she passed on. I appreciate the comment.

I'm sorry for your loss. I know you said you didn't know her very well but still... I know that it must be quite a shock. I hope that you are alright. This was a very sweet thing to do by the way... posting something in memory of her. You're very kind hon.

Thanks, Ashleigh. Yeah, I didn't hang out with her much outside of school, but my high school was very small and everyone pretty much knew everyone else there by having classes together or just talking in the hallways during break and lunch hour. I hung out with her during lunch hour many times. I only wish I had taken the time to hang out with her more, you know. But, it's one of those things in high school. You don't think a grad party is going to be the last time you talk to people or see them alive. I think it came as a shock to everyone. Thanks for commenting on this poem.

Thanks so much, Sis. Yeah, with the news of her death, I felt I had to write something in memory of her. I might still add to this piece if some memory of high school comes to me. I appreciate the comment.

awww this is a beautiful dedication to your high school classmate. It is always a shock to have someone die so young thats been a classmate of yours. I've been through this myself on several occasions and I know how you feel. It's hard to believe they are gone. She sounds like she was a sweet person. Be strong Haley, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thanks for the kind words, Charley.
Yes, she was a very sweet person when I knew her in high school. She was the kind of person who was always very bubbly and genuine. When Kelly said something, a person could tell she meant it. She also had a great sense of humor. I'd rather celebrate her life than mourn her death, you know. I appreciate the comment.

Thanks, Amera. This is the first person I knew from high school who has died so I was feeling a bit of shock and sadness because she was so young. I appreciate the comment.

aww I am so sorry, that is a big shock. Like everyone said if you need anything I'm here.
Stay strong,

Thanks, Michaela. That means a lot. I've been alright. Mostly I've been feeling a mixture of emotions. I cried earlier today, but mostly I've just been feeling in shock. She was so young, my age when she passed on. It's one of those things in life. You hear of tragedies happening in other places and people losing their friends, but somehow it comes as such a shock when a tragedy happens among your own circle of friends in your own city. It's one of those nightmare situations that you hope just won't ever happen. I appreciate the comment.

Aw I'm sorry darling.
If you ever need to talk or just vent,
you can always come to me.
[even though I'm a complete stranger, I'm always willing to listen. :]]

Thanks. I think this poem took care of the venting part.
I just felt I needed to write something in honor of my friend. Writing tends to be the way I express myself and it feels a little better to get the emotions out, you know? I appreciate the comment.

Haley Mary,
let your heart lean on mine and weep or cry. It is always a shock to lose someone so suddenly and so young.
Nice memorium.

Thanks, Buddy. I've been feeling a mixture of feelings over the past couple of days. First I felt shock and I cried for my friend earlier today. Then, other times throughout the day I go back into shock or just feel numb. You know, I always hear stories about other schools on the news about shootings or accidents happening and see people mourning their friends, at places like Columbine or Dawson college in Montreal, but somehow it comes as such a shock when something happens to a former high school classmate in my city. Losing a friend is a tragedy no-one really sees coming. I appreciate your comment.

I am so sorry. I have experiences such loss and extend my hand to you. If you need anything, please ask.

Thanks, Allan. It came as quite a shock to me when I first heard the news of her death. The first I heard of it was when a friend of mine from high school invited me to a group that was created in Kelly's memory. I was in total shock at first. I couldn't believe it happened.
