The Color Poem

We will learn our colors
Just like the teacher said
We will take a crayon
And make this  apple

______

When we know our colors
Our teacher will be mellow
Just pick up your crayon
Bananas should be
______

There are so many colors
Ordered by the Queen
Pick another crayon
And color this tree
______

There is another color
You know just what to do
Take another crayon
And make these berries
______

Pick yet another color
Pretend you are a clown
Pick up the darkest color
And make this acorn
______

How adorable! This is wonderful! I'm glad it won the gold!

  • this is very clever. even thoguh i am sure it is meant for a child, I believe adults have something to learn from this too. when i was a child i never colored anytihng the color it was suppose to be I would have made your apple purple, your bananas peach, and your tree azure. lol

2nd-4th were almost inseparable for us, and we had to consult experts (3-15 year old experts) who didn't help at all by violently disagreeing!
This is a perfect colouring poem, was road tested on 2 pre-schoolers. Heavily favoured by the younger experts of course, not many 15 year olds think they need to colour in!

This is a very clever idea for a poem for children. Well done indeed. Though I would like to see another stanza that rounds it off for example: Now you've learned your colours etc. could be a bunch of balloons with all the colours. Now there's a challenge. Love it and wish you good luck in the contest.

So sweet. I like how you have left the obvious un-written. It would be a good poem to read to children and get them to say the word to match the rhyme. My six and eight year old already both make note when they say something that rhymes, and I hardly speak of poetry with them...maybe I should get them writing!

    Lovely poem...alby
