As a child I'd squint at the Christmas Tree.
Each one held a mystery.
I caught them looking back at me.
The thousand little lights aglow,
Told secrets only I would know.
The ornaments from years ago,
Each one had a tale to tell.
Heirloom collection, the silver bell.
The porcelain angel would perch so high,
With it's halo, oh so bright !
And would send me on a elfin journey,
Each and every night.
I would find myself inside the candy store,
Where the peppermint canes were laid,
Wandering around the workshop,
Where holiday toys were made.
The tinsel mirrored my reflection,
Until no longer I could see.
I woke up from this daydreaming,
Still gazing at the tree.
I did not want to wander far from my enchanted place,
But I could not stop the calendar from turning my images into a trace
Of fairy dust and icicles, and snowflakes in the cold.
Remembering all those secrets the twinkling lights behold.
