silent rank

FREEDOM
of the people
to the people
for the people

DUTY CALLS
to the soldiers
that cant even remember
what home looks like anymore
been gone too long

DUTY CALLS
to the soldiers
who has blisters
on their feet
still wearing the same
dirty blood stained boots

DUTY CALLS
to the soldiers
who has lost a friend
a brother or a sister
who watched their
last breath fall
too far away from them
to do any good

DUTY CALLS
to the soldiers
lacking a full nights rest
sometimes cant even sleep
on a restless cot
has to tough it out
on the cold hard ground
lying awake at night
not knowing whats ahead
if they'll make it home
not knowing when
the next fight will come
just doing what their told
never knowing if they'll
ever see home again
never ever truely
be alone again

DUTY CALLS
to the soldiers
who gave enough blood
who gave enough heart
who gave enough soul
who gave enough strenght
gave enough of their life
endured until the end

DUTY CAllS
prepared to take a stand
right behind my military man
prepared to take a stand
swore into the army
prepared to take a stand
fighting in the front lines

DUTY CALLS
Soldiers trying
to do their duty
God gave a light
to show them
the difference
between right and wrong
accept the fact
that their already dead
get rid of their hope
get rid of their dreams
get rid of their soul
get rid of their heart
the sooner that happens
the sooner they can
function as a soldier
is suppose to function
in a full out war
without compassion
without mercy
without remorce
all war depends
on that little fact
war is humanity
cloaked by fear

DUTY CALLS
im still in
the military
i dont wear a uniform
you can see anymore
i dont wear it out loud
so everyone can see
its something that
only can be seen
from the inside
its written all
over my heart
i no longer wear
any rank
on my shoulders
or on my chest
i no longer
have to salute
to any officer
i am not in the
chain of command
i do not give
any orders
i do not
fire a weapon
or put my life
out there
on the line
any longer
i went from
the one who did
the leaving
to the one
whos left behind

DUTY CALLS
i now stand
in the silent ranks
in the end
the sacrifice
is just as much

"who has blisters " <-- should be who HAVE blisters as it's pluralised

Thought this was very well written; plain speaknig, doesn't hide what goes on behind the scenes as many do, and opens up the mind to the possibilities of what they hadn't thought about, or envisioned before in relation to Army life ...

    Thanks for entering
