Poetic Rain

She lies quietly on the floor
A gentle hand over her face
Shielding her midnight eyes
From the already fallen glass

A perfect pattern around her.
Silent, the rain falls
Through the broken hole
On shattered glass, tapping

Tapping quietly on the shards
She moves her hand,
The rain whispering against her skin
Filling her mind with thoughts of life

The thunder calls to her
Beckoning her forth
She rises, swaying slowly
Unsure of the feet beneath her

She strides to the window
That faces her private bay
Careful of the hungry remains
That reach out beneath her
Trying to bring her down

She trips, her feet fail
Catching the frame on desperate fingertips
She can’t let herself fall
Leaning out the window

Reaching for what isn’t there
Her hopes, her dreams, her future
The pane slick, she slips
And again she reaches out

A flash of lightning, a white grace
The rain that brushes her cheek
Is now her fearful tears
But she if no longer falling

The angel’s arms have caught her.
The arms that hold her, the eternal safety
The sky clears, in her eyes a smile
Matching the shining stars

Through the clear sky
The rain still falls
The sweet, singing poetic rain.
