A love of letters

Cicadas sing a song of love from you
Ten thousand times an hour I sigh your name
There isn't anything that I can do
Sweet Cupid and his darts must take the blame

I hear your name in music of the night
And see your face reflected in the skies
The thought of when we'll meet is all my light
A love that's framed in letters and replies

We haven't met in person yet I know
That love has bridged the gap of miles and years
My feelings for you only seem to grow
Each time I read your words and taste your tears

A song of passion fills my heart each day
But it is true that love will find a way

Author notes

OK I admit it first two lines are a blatant attempt to bribe the judge I've looked at your name so often and thought there are two elements there that would fit a sonnet so well!

What a lovely sonnet of distant lovers; as I read the words they seem like a love song...totally beautiful..novy

  • Just stopping by again to remind myself how much i enjoyed this poem. Such great rhyme that does not interfere with the beautiful emotion. Wonderfully done. Thanks again for a great entry.

  • Glorious! Cicadas are creatures that always sing of love in the night, and certainly are apt to grace the opening of this beautiful sonnet. Bribe accepted, LOL. Ten thousand times over, the judge is impressed! I just love it. The form is beautiful, the love undeniably pronounced, and the longing, so tangible. An excellent entry! Thanks for sharing your lovely thoughts.
