The taverns are filled up to the brim
They're drinking flagons in the square
And falling about like drunken swill
Enough for everyone to share
The prisoners in the dungeon keep
Are looking longingly through the bars
Everybody needs a friend sometimes
It's just what it is, just what it is
There's a mist descending on the fields
The gravestones look like broken teeth
And the taverns are lit in golden hues
The church steeple stands out like an ocean reef
The gaslighter staggers around the town
Lighting wicks in the cold night's air
The moon is shining on the castle keep
It's light is everywhere
While the cold makes the horses breath alive
as they feed from sack cloth bags
Now winter casts it's frosty stare
Coating ice over every nag
A soldier of the garrison
Stand watch with droopy eyes
Up on the parapet alone
He watches with surprise
There's a roaring fire in the castle keep
The lords and ladies eat their fare
While in the taverns where the townfolk meet
It's just what it is, just what it is
And no-one really cares...
