Stream

A river rose to my door
flood of love, abundant rain
I watched it come with spring and laughter,

beneath swirling waters
lay my path, and rising tides called
to fear and forgetting, unto my faith.

A flood ebbed away
consumed all now leaving
sunken sodden steps
and sadness flowed with it
for the place it held was lost
to bright sun and stillness of day
and fading of spring to summer;

for seasons change
like faces of clouds
carrying away our thoughts with them.

  • Just stopping by once again to enjoy this beauty and truth. Can't get that picture of the sunken, sodden steps out of my head. It's both lovely and sad. Lovely because the impression was made, sad because the flood that once whet the soil has ebbed away. Beautiful phrases and thoughts. Thanks so much for a wonderful entry.

Life and lives are always moving.
Just the sky above us, never still...

    Yes. ;)

Life is ephemeral, and the only constant is change.

  • he breezed in on summer
    a hiatus of perfumed loveliness
    stayed in the fall
while I fell like the leaves
    under his lips,
    loved me through winter
    as a blinding snowflake
    burning my eyes
left in spring so I could be
    reborn...how do I thank him
when I never knew him at all... Love, Chez

  • "For seasons change like faces of clouds" and our life moves forward in unexpected ways. This poem spoke to me on many levels; how our lives ebb and flow and one feeling gives rise to another. We may be lost in the winter, see hope in the spring and finally bask in the sunlight of summer. Every one of your poems has a hidden emotional message, a delicate way of explaining the human condition. I treasure every read. Good luck in this contest. Peace, Liz

  • What a perfectly apt, lovely imagey of the changing of seasons. The lesson here to enjoy love, enjoy the season, the swirling flood while the moments are with you is so beautifully stated and so absolutely true. I love how you have contrasted the swirling movement of the spring and the stillness of summer. Also, I love how you began with rain, and returned to the clouds in that final stanza, bringing a beautiful unity. The changing faces of the clouds is also a wonderful image to leave the reader with, for we all have watched the clouds move and transform their own countenance, making your statement of being carried away so perfectly attainable to all. Thank you for a beautiful entry.
