He only wanted one more day
There were so many things he had left to say
But this last wish was denied
He left so many tears uncried
One day too soon he just passed away
He needed just a little more time
To talk with those that he was leaving behind
To explain to those he really loved
Just one more day would have been enough
Oh why is fate sometimes so unkind
All the years of not talking, hiding what he felt
But then the ice in his heart started to melt
And he realised that he had been a fool
Pretending that he was being cool
He was playing the hand that life had dealt
He thought life was about how much he could take
And that anything given was a foolish mistake
It was all about what he could accumulate
Then just when it was all too late
He found a heart that’s closed will always ache
Author notes
I keep finding things I've written that I don't remember writing- I've tidied this one up quite a bit.
Not too sure what the inspiration was.
