The entertainer,
Funny, jolly, smiley,
A friend to all,
But look a little closer,
And you'll see that beneath the painted red smile,
There is a thin mouth with drooping corners,
You'll see that his white face make-up has two thin streaks across the cheeks,
You'll see that his eyes are dull and vacant,
You'll see that his every move is forced,
You'll see a man who needs help.
Author notes
I often wonder how clowns can always be in a happy mood, always eager to please others, laughing and smiling every day. It's all just an act; beneath the make-up there is a person with a soul who feels every emotion, not just the happiness we imagine them to.
