A Drop Of Forgiveness For Faltering -Gold

Missing image

After being beaten soundly,
sky puts clouds beyond backyard fence
and black-eyed pools glimmer
like grit-in-eye deposits
of a rough reality of storm.

I am wont to walk out in the rain,
wade into puddles to see if they are deep
enough to drown in.

Flowers I have planted nod
in humble supplication
for such a trouncing they have taken
and such rough tokens of high esteem
that turquoise tears can hold.

Am I more fragile than the flower
who curls its palmy petals
to catch a blessed byproduct
of life’s long and sustained stippling?

These boots that come only ankle high
do not keep slop of earth out
and I limp sorely from these few wet lashings
that carry small stones of reminders
that I have braved a wild wetting down,
not well, but certainly surviving.

I raise my face from snaky eye
swirling in a pool of pity
and stick out my tongue
to catch baptism after my doleful doubt
that I could withstand this weathering.

Comes The Dawn has always been a favorite of mine... there is not a certain word, or phrase, of it that inspires, but the whole of it....

wow! this was brilliant and it just took my breath away! It was so well written head to toe... And your background was lovely... complementing this poem very well! Gold trophy was well deserved! Great poem about life, that held gorgeous imagery and hard core truth! keep writing!

You deserved the gold, it was well written and fit the theme quit well. Congrats. My favorite line was this one-

that I have braved a wild wetting down,
    not well, but certainly surviving.

That pegs so well how life feels to me.

    Keep up the talented writing
