My Own Reflection

Alone

I look into my own reflection.
Naked I try to find the beauty
In a size 11

A stomach tuck, a breast reduction
Then would I be beautiful
Don't you see I'm finding it hard to be nineteen with so many imperfections

A tear drop, turns into a waterfall
A mop can't even clean up it all.

Naked I fall to the ground,
Curl up into a ball.
Wishing I wasn't me at all.

I must get off the floor

Time for another Day of fake smiles
One last naked look I wince
I put on my clothes and my mask

  • An interesting poem. You certainly took an angle that hasn't been used in this contest yet. The imagery was good and the way you portrayed it interesting. Thank you for entering and good luck. Also, if this relates to you feel free to message me or email me to set up an interview or give a statement of your opinion about eating disorders. =D

    Absolutly perfect end line.

This is emotional, gut-wrenchingly true and smacks hard of truth.

A truly amazing poem that is felt instead of read. Fantastic. This is so sad how we can NOT see ourselves for who and what we are. Our mirrors are not to blame its our vicious little minds....and the optical illusions that are caused by our compulsions to see what is not there.

....nobody else sees that vicious lie except you. (well...we do...we just see our own lies)

    beautifully sad. Amazing write.

  • i too, know sooo much about that mask. 'pretend you're fine, that it's okay...so the world will think so when they look at me!' this was very heartfelt and so sad thanks for sharing w/the group!!
