My mother was a true angel ,
we felt her wings it was her way .
She raised eight kids to adulthood ,
and never took off a .
When she had a stroke and became bed ridden,
I stood fast by her side.
And in the love so shown to her,
I saw Christ within her eyes.
On the edge of heaven I stayed ,
with her until that final day .
I dressed her and changed her for she showed me love ,
and for my mama it was more than enough.
I entered each day with a smile,
and made her smile in return.
we went outside and breathed the air ,
and I saw my mama so aware.
The day she passed I walked her ,
to heavens gate .
I talked to her as we brought her home,
and she knew she was saved .
As we placed her in the bed,
she knew she was there .
As God took her hands ,
we all became aware.
The glow about her face,
and how beautiful she became.
We knew it was his plan to welcome her once again,
days passed and lost I was for I needed her so .
And on the way to the post office ,
she gave me the prettiest little rainbow.
As I felt compelled to look up that day ,
to a cloudless sky that little rainbow was displayed .
Others began to look as I stood in awe,
and whispered thank-you mama for giving me a call.
You see God gave us a promise with a rainbow indeed,
just as my mama did for the day he would call on me.
To hold us through love and help us on our journey home ,
I carry a part of my mamas soul to show me the way above.
Author notes
I know they are near me always and in knowing this I speak to them often and include them in my poetry most every day .
