gentle horse eyes
course mane
tail
swishing back and forth
swatting away pesky flies
breaking into a run
racing cowboys not to be caught
unsuccessful
the horse stops
and listens to the notes
a little girl sings
eagles dance on the western plain
in never ending clouds of grace
looking up, the horse sees the eagles
wild and free
bridles
saddles
stirrups
all disappear
ginger hair that flows in the western wind
calm shy
in a gentle little way
fearless as a hornet
yet gentle as a kitten
the girl strokes the stallion
he nuzzles her with his icy wet nose
gentle girl eyes full of love
the stallion kneels down allowing the pansy to climb aboard
running with the wind at his back
singing with the eagles’ screeches
gentle horse eyes accepting a tiny child
as it if were his own filly
giving up freedom
for the company of her
Gentle horse heart.
Author notes
probably the most ridiculous poem I've ever written...it disgusts me, yet there are traces of sarcasm in the poem. I cannot remember if i liked horses then or wrote this poem as a joke to all those who did in 7th grade.
