Blade of Grass (7th grade poem)

Growing in billions in lawns
God created each one
Providing a place to walk without fear of thorns
burrowing in the earth
starting with an oval seed
the stringy leaves
used to make bird nest masterpieces
varying in size from an in to a foot
a vein down each center with curved lines
a blade light as a feather and dandelion fluff
soft and smooth
sides are a danger
a ruby liquid will appear as a cut is embraced
fresh taste like lettuce
in my mouth
the scent is refreshing
it fills the cool spring air
producing oxygen just for me far away blades look as they are one
near, ever detail is in sight
Each tiny vein a passageway
for cells that feed the plant
like a newborn baby
beneath the earth
a ginger tan roots
collect minerals and hold the blade in place
aslong the river of liquid
I see the sun
through the plant like skin
the cell wall
peaceful and quiet
never making a sound
each blade on its own
the solitaire blade is I
surrounded by friends 24/7
shorter than all the other plants
nibbled by rabbits
wearing away
little by little
a big family
helping
caring
loving each other
a family that is always there
taking order from the blade queen (my mother)
is it solitaire blade’s job
so simple yet so beautiful
It has a purpose like everything else God created in this world
so small yet so big in life
so important, yet she is forgotten
like me
the single blade of grass
