Copper, Gold, and Silver

I knew the child with a copper cent
who o'er my stony wall was bent
longing for a palace home
a kingdom she could call her own

I saw again the golden maid
who in my heart her coins had laid
twenty two and dreaming still
of ruby crowns with brazen twill

I know her now the aged crone
with silver threads on her wooden throne
sharing daring tales of old
with a wrinkled grin and a heart of gold

  • @@? She's an old maid!

It's a beautiful poem, that is wistful and delicately written. Congrats on the gold.
