I.
Even though the ruthless winter storm
Thunders through the evergreen trees
And the rain drenches me from my head to my shivering knees
I still push on deeper and deeper into the murky depths of night
I don’t know where I’m going; I don’t know where I’m from
I just wander aimlessly like a lost and confused bum
My body is wet and dripping with rock bottom scum
I still push on deeper and deeper into the murky depths of night
I can’t go back
I am a wanted woman; the devils people will surely attack
I’m trapped here
For a week? A month? A year?
I will surely die here
I run until I can run no more
Tired and ready to give up I fall to the tree floor
I tried with all my might
It must be dawn I can see the light
I must get out
I look to the left; then the right
All I see is a snow blanket of white
Through the soggy snow I can finally see
Through each and every tree
The path out of this hell forest is clear to me
II.
I follow the path to a fork in the road
On one side is a beautiful lake and spouting fountain
On the other side is a small mountain
I’m not a mermaid and I must hide
So I decide to climb the mountain side
I follow the path up the mountain
With each step I start to slip more and more
I slowly fall back to the bottom, to find a door
A door in a mountain side
Should I go inside?
III.
I slowly open up the door
I fall down to the ground
There is nothing to be found
Just an empty field
I am pulled toward a light in the distance
I put up no fight, no resistance
I look all around; only to find a key
I pick it up; I don’t know what its for
I look for another door
Then I see a glorious gate appear right in front of me
I open it and hear “It is only me don’t afraid; just follow me”
I ask Am I dreaming? Am I on cloud eleven?
Thunderously he replies Welcome Home; Welcome to Heaven

you have penned a lovely write,
I love that everyone can relate,
we try so hard to find our way
and I really love the ending.
I am pulled toward a light in the distance.
when we get close enough,
he leads us home.
very lovely,
with very vivid imagery
thank you for entering my contest.
God bless...
