Gone From Me.
The Warrior knelt on broken knee paying homage to the Gods
his body broken his spirits low but still fought through the odds...
He felt inside the fire still burning freely as the sun
He knew so well that death would tell before the day begun
He stood that morn heard oaths as sworn to sky and enemy
he found in strength and swore his own as facing out to sea...
a calmness felt as through the wind he prayed for victory..
he'd seen such things make angels sing and devils dance in glee
and when bell chimed he did not stride he ran berserker rage
for if he fall his name recall and written forth in page
he did not care his body still consumed by fire lite
two coins well placed his soul was safe at table he would sit
he stepped into that battle well to Gods he sent his share
he wondered as that blood did flow if others were prepared
to walk Valhalla's golden road with pride for fight as well
his axe rang true split shield and heart for victory he smell
and as was done the battle gone he turned and saw the sight
the aftermath berserker wrath there just was little right
for dead were strune upon the earth for as far as eye could see
the ground drank well as he could tell many souls set free
what was the cost as friends he lost by dozens maybe more
it chilled his heart but not from start as now unto his core
he wondered if the Gods did smile at such a senseless war
he heard the maidens sing their song as he cried "what's it for"?
so on that knee he knelt to ground with axe poised to his side
he bent his head prayed for the dead but inside Warrior cried
but this his life his strength was gone he prayed to Gods to see
he wanted less he'd passed this test now war just leave him be
so axe let fall unto the ground by hands awash with tear
he could not see a victory he wanted gone from here
and so he turned his back and walked slowly to the sea
as others watched they followed him....
Warrior gone from Me..........
