From the hospital, a man returned home
to a dust filled apartment alone;
five identical TV dinners in his freezer
Proudly, he showed them to me;
woman who lived upstairs, unawares,
would toss down the door key to anybody
I brought her flowers from a street vendor
one Sunday; we had all three been
on the outskirts and lonely
Witnesses to deterioration as
well as to integrity and dedication;
spirits in the soul's memory
Crayon landscape; every language
a flower in the springtime garden
of silver rainbows.

I really like this, it has a depth in each line that just pulls me in. At first it seems a cursory view into one man's life and then it spreads brighter and deeper (so your title is perfect). Great take on the 'seamy underbelly' prompt. Thanks for entering and good luck in the contest!
