Though her eyes may look my way
Her hands may creep and stray towards me
I am condemned to just sit back
To watch her as she walks through life
Forbidden to cross her path again
Straining against a prison without walls
Nothing binds me, though I lost it all
I must never stray from the side of her again
I took off into the pitch black night
Exactly a year ago, I left her standing
Her tears I created etched in memory
I left her for comfort in the storm
The rain pouring down its scorn
Lighting laughing at my stupidity
Then maybe it was fate
The night was dark, the hour late
I fell in the cold and wet
Never rose up again
I died shivering in the night
Wishing to only make one thing right
To see her just once again

I like this whole idea. The idea that you are stuck in this afterlife and the pain is that you could never see this person who you have loved ever again. By hurting them forever by dying, you have hurt yourself by watching them go through life in pain and knowing that you can't help. Great emotions in this piece!! Thank you very much for entering my contest, and best of luck to you in having done so!!

What a tragic story. This really goes to show how the things we do in our lifetimes can come to haunt us afterwards. It's a good story you wrote here, and I love the imagery you used. I really got a sense of where you were coming from and could actually experience it. I love a good visual! Good luck!
sincerely,
