What price sophistication?
Is it something money buys,
gilt with flattery and lies?
No, approached with trepidation,
some facets may be learned.
Garnered poise and urbane charm
will never do a bit of harm ...
yet its essence must be earned.
The French say "noblesse oblige",
though with them, the trait's inbred:
but true gentility's not dead ...
just bruised and under siege.
Sophistication, to be kind,
is really just a state of mind.
Author notes
Best I can do just now. I'm not really feeling up to writing much.

Hood Winked!!
I had to come and read from the title. Knowing the storyline you have represented it very well. I like where you have taken this as the mix between both paints images. Nicely penned.
Thank you for my short poetic journey and I hope you enjoy being Hood Winked.
Blessings

HOODWINKED OH YES!
Admiring this poem that speaks the truth so well, fine poet.
All lines give the reader imagery and thoughts a'plenty!

I really liked this piece. It had a good flow. And an excellent point. I loved the ending:
but true gentility's not dead ...
just bruised and under siege.
Sophistication, to be kind,
is really just a state of mind.
Thanks so much for entering!
