I don't feel I amount to much,
Just an ordinary white china mug,
Passed around in this cafe
Where people come to drink coffee
And work on the computers.
But today I feel special.
I'm sitting here on the computer table,
Still just an ordinary white china mug
Like tens of thousands of others.
But a woman is writing a poem about me
On the computer! On Allpoetry,
the famous poetry website.
I hope she wins the contest
Or at least gets honourable mention.
Even if she doesn't, it's an honour
To be picked to be a subject.
I'll be sure to tell the other mugs
Back in the kitchen when we're being washed.
We talk about the customers all the time
But none of them will have a tale
To top my literary life. I'm now a muse.

Author notes
I enjoy coffee so much that any mug I drink from is important to me, even an ordinary white mug in a cafe

I like the chatty character of the mug, it shows how we polish our self-esteem with the details that make us a little different. We may go a little too far at times, but someone has to recognize our individuality.
This is a sweet idea.
Congratulations for your bronze trophy!

Hmm. Strange...I commented on this, but it doesn't show, so I'll go at it again. Sorry.

I love this piece. You have brought to life a lowly little mug so well that I imagined myself as the mug looking admiringly up at you. What a lovely little piece. Thank you for your entry. Patricia

I really liked this, all things should inspire. I am a tea drinker myself, but enjoy an occasional cup of coffee. Loved the personification, that old cup is a real celebrity now.
