immortal

We wandered this stone-carved city together,
The streets like winding tunnels
Through ages of snow and sand and all the time inbetween.
It felt like an eternity, our lives encased
In concrete and neverending.

The memories of you are like suicide notes,
Each a stark reminder that you
Are gone.
You faded from my world like the ink on your letters,
The paper worn and folded and tucked away
Close to my heart.

So now I wander this stone-carved city alone
Through its serpentine alleys,
My head thick with echoes of the past
As I pass our favourite haunts and hideaways
And tuck myself away there like your letter.
