Mauve

I cannot be a hero
dressed in this mauve shirt.

Did Beowulf sport mauve?
Did Achilles? I think not.

So I cut the shirt
into even strips

and fasten them
to the winter pines

they don’t mind wearing mauve
they don’t want to be heroes.

What do you think? I mean really...
