The Ancient Youth

I used to dwell in a place so sweet,
Sweet and warm it was, and green.
Trees would shade, and trees I'd climb,
Trees would feed, and lawn I'd run.
My childhood home ages old,
Dust to dust it came and went,
Now a spirit stuck in me,
As my heart with age is bent.

I used to dwell in a heart so sweet,
Sweet and warm she was, and Spring.
Her locks would shade her soft cheeks,
Her eyes would flirt, and lips delight.
My teenage love ages old,
Dust to dust she came and went,
Now a spirit stuck in me,
As my heart with age is bent.

Exile of home and love!
Exile, that ugly word.
Leave the "ex", I'll rather "isle"
And shun the world with a smile.

The mirror shows a face of youth,
But I have an inner lense:
The lense within has a tilt to Heart,
And shows true Youth and false Age in blends.

Leave me be where I can stand
In the forest warm and caring.
Yea the ancient trees and my soul twine
With an agreed age of no confine.

Dust to dust all came and went,
And my sore heart with age is bent.

Author notes

Trees would feed : What I mean here, is, that I had fruitful trees, cherry, apple, plum, what else?

I read your words and I feel I'm reading the very thoughts of an 'Old Poet'. This poem speaks to me of an unrequirted love and a broken heart. Beautifully executed Greg. ~Von

I enjoyed this re-working of an old theme and the allusions you peppered it with.
I must confess to a little suprise at

The mirror shows a face of youth,
But I have an inner lense:
The lense within has a tilt to Heart,
And shows true Youth and false Age in blends.

as that seemed to reverse the expected iamgery I had formed of external age and internal youth. However that is simply a result of my past experiences and expectations.

Reading this after Intriversion Superior I can see the connection and how they can arise from the same stimulus.

Finally the self-contradictory title is very attractive.
