Welcome to Bullsbrook

Welcome to good old Bullsbrook, I know the name really isn't that pretty
We are the posterior of Perth suburbia and miles from that beautiful city

It does have some great advantages, despite its real dodgy name
Lots of blue tounge lizards, kangaroos too, and loads of big noisy planes

We are an Air Force town you see, with our very own RAAF air force base
and If you have a million dollars to spare, you can buy a really nice place

There are loads of pricey arcerages, just waiting for you to buy
With gum trees, cockys, kangaroos, and beautiful blue blue sky

The Air base has its very own day-care, a centre called Flying Start
My son goes there Wednesdays and Fridays, isn't the name just so smart?

The local eats are not really the flashiest, The Red Roof and Doo Duck Inn
At Red Roof the bikies will bash you. Buying at Doo Duck should be a sin

But we do have the awesome Stringybark, with the most amazing local cuisine
Kangaroo steaks and some crocodile, its the nicest of the local canteens

You do have to watch out for spiders, they sometimes land on your head
Not to mention the snakes, make no mistake, in seconds will render you... DEAD!!

The King Brown, the Dugite, the Tiger, are frequently seen hear-abouts
Although they tend only to bite you, if you're careless and step on their snouts

Oh, I think the picture I'm painting may not be the best one you've heard
And Bullsbrook is a place you'll avoid after everything here you have learned

But, we have the Western Swamp Tortoise, it's tiny and rare and cute
Its local, and much of an icon, so we all think it's really quite beaut

In Spring, the roads are all suddently lined with stunning and beautiful flowers
My normally ten minute trip into town, in September just takes me hours

Everlastings, bottlebrush, blue leschenaultia, and of course kangaroo paw
You will want to pick them and take them all home, but that is against the law

How can flowers so splendid and beatiful grow in such an ordinary place
But the colours, just so amazing, put a season long smile on your face

So you see Bullsbrook ain't really that bad, you needn't visit with dread
Come and enjoy the flowers and peace, as the Hercules fly overhead

    Good Grief!

I don't know whether to avoid this place like the plague or come and rescue you! Spiders? Snakes? Dead? I'm assuming you don't have a big tourist trade there???

On the other hand, a town with a place named Doo Drop Inn can't be all bad. You did a good job describing your little corner of the world....maybe too good!

You sort of get used to the spiders and snakes, I haven't actually seen a snake but there was a dugite up near the shed a while back, and the neighbours had one in their chook shed. They are only about Oct - Feb so you just have to be careful. However we have an advantage in that snakes don't like noise and I have 2 of the noisiest bloody kids you would ever have the misfortune of hearing. They are LOUD!! so the snakes are probably cowering under some wood pile 4 properties away. And we do have a big tourist trade, people come from miles to visit the Stringybark http://www.stringybarkwinery.com.au/

    fair dinkum (excellent!)

You should send this to Bullsbrook City Hall. I'm sure they'd make it the official town poem. I liked the part about the flowers the best. The snakes, spiders and crocodile burgers fit my stereotyped mental picture of Australia perfectly, too. This should win gold, in my humble opinion.

Sadly I feel The Doo Duck Inn and the Red Roof may sue me, but I guess I could rephrase that verse giving it a more favouralbe impression.
