personally, I thought this was exquisite and your choice of the 10 words was exceptional! You have managed to set the mood with your first four and the BANG in the last six - well done!

Wow... This stirs a lot of emotions. Though I never say "goodbye" just "bye" sometimes "bye b****" if it was good then I say "later" or "same time next week" (it's never the next day, give her @$$ time to get over that beating) but you know how it goes. From player to playette. Oh I know you, don't try to act all innocent. The way you write, I KNOW you got game. One.

That's a good question. if it's someone that i truely care about i couldn't see the 'good' in goodbye myself. Congrats on the HW. Keep up the great work.

  • When the love is gone goodbye is for the best. Simply but truly spoken! Congrats on the HM!

  • Found here in "Good riddance". Why is it our hearts so often attach to those who are not good for us?

Wow! No wonder you were Honorable winner, that was great! You did well.
And that is a question many of us seem to stumble apon, where is the good in goodbye?
Why is it good? What is good about saying goodbye to one you love?

    You worded it well!

  • "Where was the 'Good' in Goodbye---GREAT LINE!!!
Well Done and congratulations on the HM!!

  • Very nice, Jacks. Quite poignant in such a short set of words. It reminds me of my great-grandmother who we used to visit in Boston. Whenever we were leaving she would get quite upset if we said "goodbye" because she detested it. According to her, the word meant you for saying bye "for good" and that was a terrible thing. Instead, she always wanted us to say "I'll see you later" or "I'll see you again". I have never forgot her telling me that and I have never used the term in conversation since then. Even at her funeral, the last thing I said was "I'll see you later" because she never believed in goodbye. Anyway, more of a story than a critique of your poem there, but it really is a great compliment to your writing. When your words can stir such memory and emotion in the reader then you know you have achieved something good. A great poem here, Jacks... thanks for sharing it.

    • I'm sorry about your grandma... that choked me up.. thank you so much for this comment Mark!

This is probably why 'good' is erased from some peoples vocab when exiting occurs. heh

I will take my leave of absence now. heh

But yeah, especially when emotions are invested ... there are no 'good' byes.
