The American dream, a fantasy locked in statistical riches and falsely batted eyelashes. It is all imaginary and hidden in dreams deceived by sitcom television shows and clothing brand advertisements that tell you how an American should be. People have fallen into believing such lies and destroying their true dreams.
No typical American citizen can say that they do not live for money, love and power. Why else would there be stories of bank robberies and multiple heart breaks per million? Why would there be stories of authoritative figures being mercilessly eradicated? Society has drilled it into once innocent minds that America is not about freedom, it is about having the most money, loving in a false infinity, and having everyone know your name and exactly what belongs to you.
America strives on the status quo, feigning love like everything is perfect. The “soul mate” no longer truly exists. A man needs a woman in order to appear in love and meet what the others demand to see in them, and each woman is the same way. She longs to have arms that will hold her and lips that will kiss her own whether that male loves her or not. It leads to nothing but lies and unhappiness, but it shows the power that each individual carries. They have a prize, a trophy, someone that supposedly “loves” them, and they show it off as being their’s. Showing the world that that person is off limits, and nobody else can have them. But that is not how it goes.
So often people sneak around, unhappy with whom they have decided to “love” for eternity. They search for someone else, someone more exciting, to full-fill certain desires. Plenty of times an affair is only for the sex, to relieve some sexual tension with someone that is more exciting. It shows the world that they have more power than their spouse because they are not being tied down, they are doing what they want to do. Their husband or wife is clueless to the actions, but eventually, they will figure out that their significant other is in another relationship behind their back. It betrays their sense of ownership and their conception of love, throwing everything out of a peaceful curve. The American dream is clueless, it is pathetic, it is a lying, deceiving excuse for happiness that people always decide they must follow.
Along with love, power is determined by amounts of money. Those holding multiple dollars are viewed as higher class, ranked above anybody with a lesser amount of money. The world sees them as better. If there is more money in the bank, there is more power, there is a happier life. But that is not always true.
The American dream is about having that money, that love, that power, but not everybody gets that opportunity. Very few can have their cake and eat it too. People have to make decisions, and so often the money comes first. It shows more power over others. Often times people are misled by the amounts of money, assuming that those people have everything. That is far from true. The people with money do not have everything.
But even so, if a person has money, they will find themselves married. That is when love is fake, love is a lie, love is a way for power and comfort. A person may marry another with plenty of money in order to feel secure and take in some of their power. It is those people that will find themselves cheating on their spouse in order to find true love. They get caught, but plenty of times people wont take certain actions, such as divorce, to deal with it. People brush it off like nothing happened, and they work to hide it from the outside world. It keeps their image fresh and powerful, the perfect couple.
That is how America is perceived. Lying, cheating, drug dealing for money and power, ruining others’ life in order to make sure that their own is the way they want it to be. They want it shown like it is on television, like it is heard over the radio, and like it is read about in books. A person is lost, often times, in the American dream while they are working to figure out where they belong on the ranks and how they plan to get there. There is pain and fear along that path, and it is so often discovered by people while they work their way to power, love and money. The American Dreams is incredulous and simply an excuse for what we are supposed to see as happiness.

This is good. hopefully mrs. p gives you an A. I thought it was really good. It'll make people realize that his is sometimes true and it could or already have happened to them. Really nice.

I agree, it is painfully accurate. But I'm glad you wrote it nonetheless. Very few people have the courage to be so scathingly objective about the state of things. I can only hope that others are inspired by your piece to take a good hard look at themselves and their lives so as to try and change this heartless country we live in.

ouch. painfully accurate. i'm not sure that "often times", as used in the last paragraph, is technically grammatically correct. you might want to check that.
really nice though. you should get an A *crosses fingers for you*
