She could see through me
the way mother had
back when the fence was still so white
and never closed
beyond Autumn's edge.
And I felt her breath
sidle up
across my skin
taking all of me
in a moment I'll try never to forget.
Her red smile
tilting in October's tug
drawing me a little closer to her heart
as I ran my fingers
across her many designs
without picking one...

This is lovely poetry....elegant and subtle and a wonderful take on the "poppies in october" theme.
