Nostalgia

Have you walked the wending way
Darkly through the winsome gloom?
Swiftly past the mist-furled grey
meander on past moonlit tomb

Have you heard the trumpet's blast
calling soldiers on to glory?
while they sleep in dim repast
eyes now clouded, beards now hoary

Have you seen the fading sun
giving way to argent stars?
through the fields the shadows run
skipping o'er silver bars.

Have you scribed the minstrel's song
sagas sung of glories old?
These oldtimes weavers swept along,
their greatest stories gone untold

Author notes

How can you not be happy with this poem? I am recalling Keats, Lord Byron, Wordsworth, and Chaucer even. You're archaic diction is beautiful, the old-time spelling and words really seem to be your style. This poem, the title and its meaning go hand in hand very well. I love the first stanza--it introduces the poem's message with power. And the soilders "sleep[ing] in dim repast / eyes now clouded, beards now hoary". The third stanza is creepy with the personification of the shadows. But the last stanza, is truly the best....it creates a nostalgia in the reader...Excellent job.

    Wonderful!

I love this one. It appeals to me. I had to read it twice to come to a good conclusion of my feelings regarding it. It has made me think and ponder a bit. I truly do like this one. I love the lines, their flow, the style, and the close. It's a lovely peace. Great Write.
