I searched vainly so long
for the fountain of youth,
often chasing endless promises
of vitality renewed
capped in fat jars,
glass bottles and tubes.
Age is ever
so heartless,
wrinkling even
one's smile,
we slip into
its grasp unaware,
of the deterioration
that's daily occurring,
till the mirror
becomes a tattletale,
exposing our flaws.
But no surgery for me,
with skin stretched like saran wrap
to hide life's leftovers.
Acceptance was the first step
that I took one spring morning,
while watching my tiny son,
leaping nimbly at play,
it was then that I realized,
that the fountain of youth,
only streams from men's loins,
and lies fallow for nine months,
in the wells of their women.
Till it's sprayed with placenta,
in a burst of pink flesh,
then true youth re-emerges
in a small carbon copy,
of what we all once were.
Youth is passed to our children,
thus we must fade away,
to make room for their dancing
in the fountains of youth,
live vicariously through them,
find lost years in their smiles,
and drink deeply with fervor,
all the beauty they share.

This is absolutely wonderful!
Interesting Idea! I'll be sure to consider it when i grow older, get married and have children.
Fantastic and very nicely written.. when you started giving details .. I thought 'where is this poem heading?' but the result is wonderful and the details now have their place.
Keep on writing, and thank you so much for entering this in my contest.

A deep and sort of sad write.
Nature and old age with wrinkles and loss of energy is a sad fact of life. As your poem brings out so well people search for the fountain of youth in capped fat jars, glass bottles and tubes.
The wrinkles and greying hair that the beauty industry make millions of pounds from each year as people try to remain youthful looking.
Then the sadness as the poet realises the harsh reality, that youthfulness has either gone, or is slowly going. Now a realisation that to live it, it will now have to be lived from the fountain of youth, that only streams from mens loins, and lies fallow for nine months in the wells of their women.
A good illustration is used here to describe the fouintain of youth, and the well, very cleverly done.
Then the resilts of this union, a small carbon copy of what we once were, youth is passed on to our children hence we must fade away the stark reality.
Youthfulness is gone, only to be lived by our children who sadly will follow the same pattern, so sad, so very very sad. Time and money spent, to preserve youthfulness and life only results in an inheritence of old age.......
Do you know where the real fountain of youth can really be found? It says at Job 33: 24,25 Let him off from going down into the pit, I have found a ransom. let his flesh become fresher than in youth, let him return to the days of his youthful vigor.
This verse promises the hope of men and women returning to the days of their youthful vigor and their wrinkles vanishing so that their flesh becomes fresher than in youth can you imagine that?
Revelation 21:5 and the one seated on the throne said: "Look I am making all things new" Also he says "Write for these words are faithful and true"
Being made new by God, can you imagine this? Adam and Eve didn't have old age and wrinkles and loss of vitality until they sinned against God. If they had remained faithful they would never have grew old.
The bible futher says at Revelation 22:17.
"Come let anyone who wishes take lifes water free"
