Legacy (When I'm Gone)

Don't fret, sweet soul
I may be gone now
But I have reached home
It's time for you to live
Be sold-out to the ways you
walk in, the truth you know

Have I made my mark?
That even though I'm dead
People still remember what I did
and that I lived like no other
And wished I was there
To make them laugh again
Did my legacy include things that would
allude that I worship Christ or that I lived
a worthless life
What did I leave?

Child, it's okay
It was meant to be this way
That God's plan was to be laid out this way
Even if that means that I'm not here
So live your life with haste
Like you don't have another day
And build on your legacy
So when you're here with me,
people will look back on you and say,
"Those people followed Christ and I see that
they didn't waste their life. That's who I want to be."

Even beyond death
When my voice is no longer here
and my breath has left my chest
I still want to be
a light to those who can't see
what really needs to be the focus of their reality

Let my legacy
Bring the world to its knees, in honor of a Kingdom
it's not worthy to even know
I want my death to bring forth decisions
and see people come to Jesus and not just cry
because I'm gone

When my body says goodbye
I'll be at home with family
But when your body fails you
can you say the same?

I believe as a poet and a person you managed to do all this and more. Such strength in your choice of words and a basic understanding for all human feeling, makes me know that you mean everything that you say within these lines.

beautiful write, it is a hope for many of us that we leave some legacy behind ... to be remembered in some way...

Apologies, this write did not work for me, it read like an accusatory statement to the one written to followed by a see-me-feel-me-all-about-me-

I don't know why you central aligned or used red-anger-danger-font-

Overall there is a self-evaluation and a total relegation of child' spoken too

In the name of the Black Eyed Peas

    Where is the Love...

    You cannot leave Light
    if you cannot leave Love.

It's supposed to be about me or a single person b/c it's about leaving a legacy. It's about looking at your life and seeing if you've left anything.

I don't think you know what you're talking about, especially if you're going to quote the Black Eyed Peas in your comment.

        Peace...

I understood it was meant to be about leaving a legacy...I commented on the legacy as I perceived it to be...because I only ever comment from a place of polite honesty...as for quoting the Black Eyed Peas... They weren't my words but they are my song...copyright /any writer worth their salt references a quote/lryric and does not pretend it's their own...it wasn't my original thought... where is the love...so I quoted the BEP's...it's ok that you don't know what I'm talking about...you just validated my perspective with your own myopic selective...it's not about what you tell others what you leave...or how they are they are wanting...it's about what is left regardless...

        Peace dear poet

        it is only a perspective

        You will leave the memories
you wish to leave, and that's cool

"it's not worthy to even know [but He accepts us anyway]" - I do not feel the bracketed part is necessary. Other than that, a good poem that you have written here, it flows quite nicely in the rhyming, and doesn't stray off into forced lines, to my recollection.

Wonderfully heartfelt write, speaking thoughts that I think every one can relate to with what mark do we leave on this world that will remain when we no longer do. I especially liked these lines "I still want to be a light to those who can't see what really needs to be the focus of their reality." Somehow they stood out to me more than the others.
