Walking down the street.
He had to be nearly ninety,
And today that’s quite a feat.
But what had caught my eye,
It was on his left hand.
What he was wearing,
Was a wedding band.
That’s when I had a thought,
If that old I will be.
Where will I have been?
For that I can not see.
But when I’m old and weathered,
And enjoyed life’s wild ride.
When that time does comes,
Will you be by my side?
What I had realized,
Watching him that day.
With you to share my life,
I'd have it no other way.
But if the dreaded happens,
And before that time you die.
Wait for me in heaven,
For I will join you nigh.
Author notes
I actually came up with this poem sitting at a red-light on my way home from work. I hope that that old man I saw would be me one day. Old and still in love with my lifelong wife. The photo is my grandparent who have both passed but were together their whole life. This poem was written March 14th 2008.

Really great poem man. I got really into the beat and the rhythm. I bet that you could be that man one day. Great poem once again man. Never thought that I'd be so happy that a red light stopped somebody.

good poem. its amazing when you see old people and how they are still so in love with each other... or when you see that just this one person really loves someone that is gone... its amazing to see what this world holds period. like love. hmmm.... stupid stupid world to want so much pain. really, good poem. i like the last stanza... goes to show that love really is a lot.
