Plato's World Of Shadows

Once upon a time there was a group of people who were stuck inside a cave.
In such a way that they could only see shadows on the wall,
as they waited to be saved.
One day they managed to escape into the world outside.
The sunlight they saw blinded their eyes.
They surveyed the world and gone were their woes.
For they had escaped Plato's world of shadows.

Author notes

info found in book The Dancing Wu Li Masters; An Overview of the New Physics by Gary Zukav. Plato's parable of the cave described a group of people who are chained inside a cave in such a way that they can only see the shadows on the wall of the cave. Shadows are the only world these people knew. One day, one of the people escaped into the world outside and at first was blinded by the sunlight, but after they recovered, they realized that this was the real world and what they thought was the real world (the cave) was only the projection of the real world onto the wall of the cave.

Thanks, William. There are some days when a cool cave would be nice. Especially when the really warm weather comes in the later summer. When it gets to be thirty degrees outside I think anyone would want to have a cave nearby.
      Thanks for the comment.

Reminded me of this Austrian man who held his daughter and grandchildren captive for years
They had not seen Light for about 24 Years

Thanks, Desire. Yeah, I heard about that story, too. I read about it on yahoo news awhile ago. Very sick what that guy did.

This poem was strictly about Plato, though, but reading it again, I can see how people could relate it to that story.

      Thanks for the comment.

Good write Haley. Interesting how one would feel upon being in a cave forever and then being released to see the actual world. Thanks for sharing and keep writing.

Thanks, Charley. Yeah, it can be strange to think of what it would be like to never see daylight or not know what a shadow was. For the average person, it cane be pretty difficult to fathom. Thanks for commenting.
