Woman of Valor

Where can you find beauty in a woman?
The question has many answers.
Is it in the face of a mother
or is it found in the body of a dancer?

These hips that some say are too wide
were bought with the breath of a child.
These drooping breasts are from nursing a babe
while by his sweet smile beguiled.

I am a sturdy Godly woman of valor
not a model,a willowly fleeting form.
I shelter my own from cold and from sun
standing tall I will weather each storm.

I will not concern myself with the marks
and the wrinkles with which my body is rife.
They are badges of honor to me
they are treasures found in the experiences life.

Rather well written. You have a unique view expressed here. Most people put themselves through torture so they can look younger, but I don't see the point. Stanza 3 is worded awkwardly. You should reword it so it makes more sense. In the third line of stanza four, you say "They are a badge" when it should be "They are BADGES" in order to be grammatically correct. Those are the negatives. Rather small, I think. this is very well written and expressed. Thank you for entering it in my contest.

I love the strength that is present in this work. You are proud of the things that society typically does not accept as "beautiful" and that makes me proud as well. Personally, the last two lines speak the loudest to me. Lovely job.

Absolutely breathtaking. I so agree, if someone asks me about my body- I say- this belly kept my babies safe, and these breasts helped give them life. How can I be anything but grateful and in awe! How can we hate our stomachs when they are the core of life?

    Bravo, poet! Beautiful!!!

You have an inner strength which I admire.Being Godly woman is the source I feel.An excellent write.
Sadly, as we are both aware, so many of the younger generation truly struggle with image. Even my ten year old son has been taunted because he was 'fat' - while he was actually underweight!
