Distinction

Happiness is orange sherbet
on a hot summer day;
sweet, refreshing, gliding
past pink puckers,
dissolving into
warm darks.

It is bubbling laughter,
enjoyment’s sigh,
the smell of baking bread,
anticipated good
found weightier than its promise.

A nomad,
traveling with Satisfaction
and Pleasure,
pitching temporary camp
in Contentment’s vale.

While each memory that invokes Joy

bears full-cupped soul’s ambrosia,
golden heights and breadths
as brimming as first delight,
undiminished.

Warmth of adversity-proven friendship,
relief born of thoughtful kindness
extended to aching need,
cherished family playing
in soapsuds and silliness,
the harvest of cultivated trust.

Her companions are Faithful Love,
Tenderness and Gratitude.
Though Adversity’s tears
water her garden,
they nourish roots of strength
beneath character’s roses.

This is so lovely and uplifting! And orange sherbet happens to be one of my most favorite things in the world, especially on a hot summer day. I love how this highlights the happiness to be found in simple, attainable things. Wonderful!

Had me from the first lines, "Happiness is orange sherbet on a hot summer day." Love the idea of the poem as well as the way it is presented.

"the smell of baking bread" and
    "soapsuds and silliness"

especially painted the picture for me. Another great write!!

Yes. I would have to say that this is happiness, joy and contentment; to have and know you have all of this.

    Great write!
