i am an island,
standing alone.
restless waters surround me
crashing against
my eroding shore.
no one
standing by my side
as the tempest attacks.
i am an island,
standing alone.
dry and deserted
the powerful sea
eating away at
what is left of my sandy shore.
fisherman's rowboats
give me wide birth.
they could easily come visit me
but instead they stare longingly
at the beautiful mainland.
i am an island,
standing alone.

you used a good metaphor for this one, and nicely tied things up with repetition. I think, in the line "give me wide birth", you mean "berth".
anyway, this came across very strong emotionally. thanks for entering!
