We take several postures of repose,
my feet up, head on the chair back,
relaxed together.
Conversation desultory,
silence or talk the same importance,
nothing forbidden.
Outside, the mad world
dictates appearance and propriety;
exhausting.
I return to my refuge
to refresh, relax,
remember love.

OUTSTANDING
I really enjoyed the poem "Refuge", it totally captures the exhaustion at the end of a long day's fight to exist and be and the escape into a refuge be it love, church or a good book. We all need that escape, the moment of finding refuge to remain intact.
Thanks! ms.b.e.m.c.

A wonderful, alliterative experience ...
of r-rolled gold! I loved this.
Ah. That total rest, the one in the silence of the other, or in the soothing sounds of well-known expressions of thougts ... in familiar voices.
Let the world pass by ... for now, we take refuge.
Congratulations on your well-deserved trophy, Poetess. Excellent poetry.
Love
Myra

Thank you Myra! The nice thing about rest is that after a little while, you feel ready to go again. I'm happy you like this.

I often feel like going on again ...
after I read your work ... You are so inspiring.

I've longed for a place of refuge like this. It was always within me, I just couldn't stop spinning until something greater than I interceded and gave me permission... not to be a wind-up. Strange how what was blurred began to take on design. ~Karen

Thank you for applause Karen, and your wonderful thoughts.
Why do we need permission to be as kind to ourselves as we are to others? It is not self indulgent to take care of the one who takes care of everyone else.
Best wishes to you.

This is exactly how I have been feeling and getting back out into the world has been disconcerting. My refuge is comfortable so I can 'refresh, relax, and remember love.' Thank you so much for this lovely and personal piece. Patricia

The world can be pretty rough, but when we have support at home, we can do everything necessary.
I'm very grateful to my husband and kids for providing that to me, they let me be me, whatever I am at the time.
Thank you for the contest Patricia, and thanks especially for the trophy.

"...silence or talk the same importance..."
The comfort zone,
perfectly described.

Thank you Aesthete.
When you have this, you can face everything else.

Ha ha ha. The first word is the writer and the reader. How could that be missed? I like this. I give it three bunnies.

I love the message that we need to escape from the "needs" of a "proper" society and just allow ourselves to BE. I enjoyed this very much. Only critical comment I have is that the first word in the poem is not attached to any illumination as to who "we" refers to.
Lovely poem.~ Joyce

Thank you Joyce, I'm much encouraged. I will think about your comment about persons. I'm happy you enjoyed it.
