I've almost gotten used to this
The wallpaper is peeling around the edges
And nicotine stains the curtains
Which are only there to hide the grunge smeared windows
The threadbare blankets match the carpet
With both the color and texture of mud
Cockroaches pace the doorways
Like sentries at watch
And I lie on my back
Praying silently that I don't need a tetanus shot
Simply to sleep on this bed
