the sounds
from the speakers
waft past my ears
and straight into my heart
lulling me to dreams
memories pulling the covers up
over the eyes
that no longer can see what she's missing
shelter in this sea storm
shade in this heat
if only my body was smaller
or taller
so filling in the spaces
and enjoying the silence
would come as a second skin
loneliness is contagious
to thoughts
so when i write today
my words drip with solidarity
and sadness
if only i could hit the play button
again
