by society's mores of the day.
conquerers are exalted,
when it suits
the everchanging filth
of the high moral ground.
the deed done
and the champion
is untouchable,
a sign of perfect principles
without the need
for continuity of honour.
whatever follows is blinded
by one act
that suits the propoganda
of the time.
the paladin now chuckles;
sinister;
in the knowledge they are
beyond the law,
but then the law
trots around on an ass's feet
for have we not given
carte blanche
throughout society,
for one moment
that could have been
selfish rather than selfless?
from behind gilt doors
acts of malevolence
are conducted
without contrition,
while the hero smiles
benevolently
and the wheels of history
roll on...
Author notes
Quote taken from Hogfather [Discworld series - by Terry Pratchett]
Quote 3
"And then Jack chopped down what was the world's last beanstalk, adding murder and ecological terrorism to the theft, enticement and trespass charges already mentioned and all the giant's children didn't have a daddy any more. But he got away with it and lived happily ever after without so much as a guilty twinge about what he had done. Which proves that you can be excused just about anything if you're a hero, because no one asks inconvenient questions."

Eerie. Your mind to change the mood with words is beautifully executed. I love the concepts you bring to life - very uniquely done and the poetic devices are nicely drawn within.
Thanks for entering,
