Half Way Round The World

Hey, my blue eyed girl,
Do you still remember who I am?
Half way round the world,
Your new life is all glitz and glam,
Shallower than insults hurled
On the night we said goodbye,
Sadder than the thousand tears I’ve cried

And, as the years have passed,
I’ve wondered how you’ve changed,
Do you still shine as bright as glass?
And would I recognise you as the same
Girl who stood by me when times were harsh?
Are you still that kid out dancing in the rain?

Bet I’ve never crossed your mind,
Half way round the world,
I have never crossed your mind,
Have I, blue eyed girl?

You ran away to forget
The way things used to be,
But is it every memory you regret?
Or is it just your memories of me
That hurt like hell inside your head?
Can’t you see that running never sets you free?

Hey, my blue eyed girl,
Can you still be certain who you are?
Half way round the world,
Without the song of my guitar?
I wrote it for my blue eyed girl,
Back when it was just you and I,
And we climbed trees to try and touch the sky

Have I ever crossed your mind,
Half way round the world?
I have never crossed your mind,
Have I, blue eyed girl?

Hey, my blue eyed girl,
What future can you see ahead?
Half way round the world,
Where racing cars and jumbo jets
Carried you from where you curled
Inside my heart, back when
You were my blue eyed girl
Now, no matter how I try,
I can’t see where our happy ending lies

A broken promise broke my heart,
But now it’s time to mend,
For two souls half a world apart
There is no happy-ever-after end
In sight, so I should start
Anew and start again,
What new songs hide in my guitar?
Can I forget for real, not just pretend?

I have never crossed your mind,
Half way round the world,
Time to put you far from mine,
Hey, my blue eyed girl,
You will never cross my mind,
Half way round the world

Author notes

This song was inspired by
Plain White T's- Hey There Delilah:
video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=EbJtYqBYCV8
lyrics: http://www.metrolyrics.com/hey-there-delilah-lyrics-plain-white-ts.html

I drew inspiration from the lyrics, video clip, music and the overall way the song made me feel.

It is about my sister.

Beautiful music--congratulations on the Gold! Curious if your sister still dances in the rain?

YAAAYYYY!!! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for in my contest! You did a great job. You analyzed what the words in the song meant to you and put the same feeling into the poem without copying lines from the song.... Thank you for entering my contest!

Wow. You didn't just sham another pop song - I had no clue that it wasn't entirely your poem until I read the author notes. Heartfelt, interesting, and quite passionate.
