Forbidden

The sky sparkles with distant memories
and a warm glow lines the horizon,
diffusing in to my fragile heart.
Forbidden affection cuts deep,
as I look in to your familiar eyes.
My fingers itch,
longing to touch you
and your blissful embrace
is like gentle asphyxiation.
Swallowed words fill my lungs.
Now I feel you inches away,
far too close but far too far.
And I shut my eyes,
trying to forget that your tomorrows
belong to someone else,
as I grasp weakly at missed moments.

Author notes

I don't want to keep explaining my heart. If you know me, then know me well enough not guess at things you do not know.

Any good?

    Beautifully sad.

Love this piece of pain you have shared with us. Broken heart - sadness - great expression of loss. Thank you for the kind comments on my poem "Remembering" God bless.

sniff, that's very sad, but very human and very true, I guess we all know how it feels!
    It's beautifully written too

    Strong imagery

makes this one stand out. I especially liked this line:

    "My fingers itch,
    longing to touch you"

Bringing in the tactile sensations of your emotions is a pretty neat trick. Very well done.
