mine was handed to me wordlessly
as i walked out the door
it would be the last time
i've seen you since then
i wore it on my finger
sometimes it got in the way
but i didn't mind until
i noticed the paint
chipping off of it
then i wore it on
a necklace hanging safe but
still the paint slowly wore away
i cursed myself for being so clumsy
and thought long and hard on the matter
then i realized
i've been a fool
it's not the glory
of that ring that
struck me when
i took it
from a
sullen
glum

its the gift of commitment
that we shared together
regardless of how it
looks to anyone else
or us at times
whether the relationship
is flowering or in momentary decline
that ring will always mean the same thing
whether all the paint and plastic gem is gone

with one last look into
each other's hesitating eyes
commit and say, we're going to try
and make this work, even if it doesn't mean forever

sorry if it's not clear enough, I just know that at the time it sounded good in my head, even if this sucks compared to that it's nice to have those feelings out....
I'll probably revise it, or take it down later....
and yes, the voicing is intentionally childish/not well written, it's innocence and the truth that can be held there that i was going for....
you can call me crazy but tell me why you think so.....
