If they were found, these shells from the shore
In my case, amidst the diamonds bright,
I'd still pick them from my treasure store
And grab a ride on fancy's flight..
As I hold the shells so near
The sound of waves, the laughter that night
~ Music in memories, I shall hear,
The torn paper and the colored kite,
Their rustles.. Murmurs from the breeze..
All together they trite;
The wind, the shore, the distant seas
In a slow dance besides memory's sight..
This shell was once my castle's crest
Adorning the crown of my hand built shrine,
From thence its been, in my treasure chest
Amidst the gemstones that sparkle and shine,
These sand clad shells, I let them reign
For I hold them dear and love them best
As I take a trip down memory's lane
They are the ones who add some zest..
Alone I stand 'neath the starlit sky
Counting my shells, I feel so blest,
I'm glad, I picked them.. I can only sigh
As I count these shells, I feel so blessed..

Shells are such enigmatic and colorful reminiscenses of life and happy hours beach combing. Somehow, they are the wonder of the children we still are.

I loved the topic of your poem and how the simple things are often of more value [emotionally] than their weight in gold!!! I love to walk the beaches too, collecting little treasures... Loved this!!!

This way I could continue from the very first to the last word from this poem. Whenever I want to run to the land of fantasy I am coming back to your site, dear friend.

One of my greatest pleasure as a child was seaside holidays. One thing guaranteed to make the homeward journey were sea shells collected by my sister and I. Treasured possessions they were too. If holding a large shell to our ear we could hear the sea although we lived 100's of miles away from any coastline. This is where I was today whilst reading your lovely poem, with my sister, as kids, fossicking for treasures.
Your poem has such a quality to bring those treasured memories rushing back to me, it's just lovely. ~Von

Hi Von.. Thanks for the lovely comment. Such comments make the poem all the more worthwhile.. While writing, I myself was drawn back to childhood days when my cousins and I built sand castles..
Guess Seashells have their place in every one's memory nest
Thanks for reading..
